Blue Life, is offering volunteers positions to participate in community development, environmental conservation and ecotourism projects on Mantanani Islands, Sabah, Malaysia. Mantanani is a beautiful tropical island 30 km off the costline of Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia sourrounded by crystal clear waters.
The volunteer will live and work on the island in a community house or in the Blue Life camp.
The local community lives traditionally with limited infrastructure and scarce economic opportunities. More than 80% of households are dependent on unsustainable fisheries; illegal practices such as bomb and cyanide fishing are rampant; and stocks are quickly becoming noticeably overfished.
Volunteers will collaborate with local villagers and stakeholders, to develop and implement different projectes on Mantanani: eg. the installation of a aquaponic greenhouse, the establishment of safe drinking water supply, the modernization of village houses, waste collection systems and other topics.
The work can be manifold from working out business models for entreprenuers, landscape design, construction work, conservation activities or launching new operations.
Sustainable livelihoods and income diversification through community-based social enterprise accelerator programs are the primary goals for the Blue Life projects.
Interested candidates can be from all educational levels. Candidates with interest or experiences in workmanship construction, sustainable development; environmental studies; economics or business development are very welcome.
Blue Life , provides a living arrangement, including the accommodations, meals and ground transportation for a very affordable, fixed . With more than 2 weeks stay, an adventure tour into the jungel of Sabah and visit of Kota Kinabalu town is included even.
Usually the work is not paud and Blue LIfe expect a paymen for the service offered, which are priced on a very low level. The travel costs to the target airport Kota Kinabalu are in responsibility of the volunteer.
The volunteeer courses are between 1 week (minimum) and 6 weeks.
For more than 2 week a social visa is recommeded, and the application will be supported by Blue Life.
